Tech Predictions 2021: Technology Trends That Might be Coming Next Year

The COVID-19 pandemic that struck the world early this year has changed many things and affected people’s way of life–and even technology. So, how will this year impact the technological trends we will see in 2021?

Here are some of the top predictions for tech trends that will take over 2021:

From VR to XR

According to CMO, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR) will all play a part in 2021, especially when it comes to marketing and creating new ways for brands to connect with their customers.

Recent market research by the company IDTechEx predicted that virtual reality technology will grow up to $8 billion by the year 2030 and will be one of the critical technologies of the next decade, while both AR and VR market will grow up to $30 billion in the next several years.

Advanced and Extended Use of AI

Artificial Intelligence or AI use has been widespread in the past few years, especially with the arrival of Siri, Apple’s AI, Amazon’s Alexa, as well as the Google Assistant. However, some believe that more advanced and extended use of AI will be a common trend in the coming years.

Social Hospitality also believes that AI can be used in the hospitality industry, allowing hotel guests to have a more comfortable stay.

Artificial Intelligence, smart computers, and machine learning can be used in creating robots that could provide assistance to people, better medical devices, and even predicting human behavior.

Remote setups

Due to the pandemic, everyone has been forced to stay indoors, so working and studying have become remote. But while online classes may soon end as the COVID-19 vaccine arrives, remote working may still remain, with some companies implementing more work-from-home setups.

Moreover, telemedicine and telehealth will remain in the coming year, mainly as people have found how convenient the set up is and that several barriers to telemedicine have been torn down, according to TechRepublic.

“This makes telehealth an attractive alternative as it allows them to get care from anywhere and also maintain continuity of care when they’re unsure where they’ll move next,” said Varsha Rao, the CEO of Nurx, which is a digital health practice for women.

5G Technology and Satellite Internet

With the demand for technology increases, the internet connection should also keep up–and that’s what’s going to happen as 5G technology finally becomes fully operational, providing people with a faster internet connection with a lower latency rate.

Moreover, satellitle internet will most likely going to become popular in the next few years, especially as Elon Musk’s SpaceX is continuing its Starlink Constellation project that will provide people with a much faster connection speed. Think 50Mbps as the average speed.

Advanced and Ecological Cars

Lastly, advanced and more ecological cars will likely dominate the streets in the coming years as companies turn to create electric vehicles and self-driving vehicles, led by Musk’s Tesla, the world’s biggest EV manufacturer.

Jeep has even declared that by 2022, they would turn all their cars into electric vehicles, as noted by InsideHook.
